About the Show
Soul Power is the longest rare groove radio show in the country. It features everything from groove jazz and deep funk to boogaloo, Afro-funk, Latin, and DC go-go. It's founded and hosted by me, the Soul Sister, and I like to dedicate air time to tunes that are not well known.
Soul Power will have aired for 12 years (once June 2006 hits) on WWOZ 90.7 FM, community radio for New Orleans--the Crescent City's own Jazz & Heritage station. Before June 2002, it aired from midnight until 2 am on Saturday nights. It can now be heard every Saturday night at an earlier time from 8-10pm (US Central Standard Time). I take pleasure in playing the best and rarest funky music and hard grooves especially for you!!
(Because of Hurricane Katrina issues, the show did not air from September 3, 2005 - December 17, 2005. It returned to the airwaves on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2005. Soul Power was also the last show to air on WWOZ before the station signed off for the hurricane on Saturday, August 27. I closed that show, and the station, feeling very silly and played Side Effect's "What the Heck, Let's DiscoTheque," which I think was an appropriate closer, don't you?)

Listen to the Theme Song!
"Bold Soul Sister"
I love to start every edition of the Soul Power show with this song, which I've adopted as my theme song. And, yes, I play it off the vinyl every single week! It's not your typical Ike & Tina song because it's very funky, even though it is a rip-off of Sly & the Family Stone's "Sing a Simple Song!"
